Federal Court Issues Preliminary Injunction Blocking DOL Overtime Rule

Faulting the Department of Labor for issuing a regulation with an improper de-facto salary-only test, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas today issued a preliminary injunction blocking new overtime rules scheduled to become effective on December 1, 2016. The new rules would have doubled to $47,500 the maximum salary an employee could earn and still be eligible for overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
